What is a Computer Virus?
A computer virus is a piece of software that is designed to deliberately interfere with or damage your PC’s operating system or record, corrupt or delete data on your hard drive. A computer virus can replicate and spread quickly often infecting your PC via email or a web site you have visited. Computer viruses can also infect your computer from a CD, DVD or any other type of storage device which you connect to your PC.
What is Antivirus Software?
Antivirus software is used as a counter measure against computer viruses. Antivirus software is designed to detect, prevent and take action to disarm or remove malicious software programs such as computer viruses, internet worms and Trojan horses.
Who should use Antivirus Software?
Anybody who receives email, browsers the internet, uses CDs or DVDs or any other type of storage medium to transfer data or install new applications onto their PC should be using a comprehensive antivirus software package. Essentially this means everybody, as it is very difficult to make use of a PC without performing one or more of the activities mentioned above.
